Gulf of Mexico Sea Kayaking



Dust off your bathing suit for a sea kayaking adventure in the Gulf of Mexico! This trip spends five days kayaking in the Gulf of Mexico and four nights of camping on secluded sandy islands off the Everglades coast and the land of 10,000 Islands. Catch a glimpse of a manatee, sea turtle and certainly a dolphin! Participants on this trip will gain skills such on-water navigation, essentials of kayak touring, proper kayak strokes, safety, and rescues.

Itinerary:
Sunday, January, 20:
Arrive at hotel in Miami, Florida. Get a good night’s sleep before heading out on the water.

Monday, January 21:
Wake up & drive 2 hours to Flamingo Visitor Center. Pack kayaks. Kayak 5-8 miles stopping for breaks and lunch. Cook dinner and camp on secluded sandy beach.

Tuesday, January 22:
Wake up & make breakfast. Kayak 5-8 miles stopping for breaks and lunch. Cook dinner and camp on secluded sandy beach.

Wednesday, January 23:
Wake up & make breakfast. Kayak 5-8 miles stopping for breaks and lunch. Cook dinner and camp on secluded sandy beach.

Thursday, January 24:
Wake up & make breakfast. Kayak 5-8 miles stopping for breaks and lunch. Cook dinner and camp on secluded sandy beach.

Friday, January 25:
Wake up & make breakfast. Kayak 4-7 miles stopping for breaks and lunch. Kayak back to van. Pack up and head to Miami hotel. Stay night in hotel and go out for dinner.

Saturday, January 26:
Travel home

** You must register by December 15
*Mandatory Wet Exit training on Sunday, December 16 from 5-7 p.m.
*Mandatory Pre trip meeting- date TBD
*This trip is physically and mentally challenging
*You must have strong swimming ability
*This trip is rain or shine, however, if weather conditions are bad, we will not be on the water
*Hotel rooms and tents are double occupancy

Transportation Options
Option 1: Join us in our 18 hour drive to Miami, Florida in our 12 passenger van. We will drive 10-12 hours on January 19, stay in a hotel, then drive the remaining time on January 20 to a hotel near Miami airport. After trip, we will drive 10-12 hours on January 26, stay in hotel, then drive the remaining time on January 27 back to Columbus.
+$200 for two extra stays in hotel on Jan 19 & Jan 26 while traveling (food is not included while traveling)

Option 2: Fly to Miami airport and meet us at nearby hotel. You must arrange your own flight and be at selected hotel on January 20. You are responsible for transportation from airport to hotel and vice versa. (We will be close by, no more than 10 miles from airport). Your flight back will be January 26, unless you plan on staying in the area longer on your own accord.

Must be able to kayak independently for up to eight miles a day in open water, possess strong swimming skills, and take care of personal needs while camping on primitive lands
